Recent movies I really enjoyed

It has been a hiatus of 2 months from my last visit to my blog. And I am breaking it now.

Just thought I could write a post on three of the recent movies I really enjoyed watching.

1. Vaagai Soodae Vaa

                A well directed movie depicting the reality of poor state of needy in the middle of this centenary. Simple and good story. "Sir" (Vimal) wants to become a government teacher per his father's wishes. As a step towards it, teaching to poor students of a distant village through a private organization would help him get a certificate which in turn will help in fetching Govt. job. Rest of the story revolves around how he manages to stay there, educates kids and wins heart of a village girl. Though the movie is pretty well predictable in the first 10 minutes of the movie, the screenplay and direction is good. Practicality is what I like the most in the movie. Worth the time.

2. Engeyum eppothum

                An awesome romantic movie. The climax is the first scene. But quite unpredictable ! Story writer knows exactly how he could make people pinned to the seats till the end. Story is very simple and practical too. It is all about two pair of lovers. The first pair is of a Chennai typical city guy and an innocent but brilliant village girl who comes to Chennai in search of a good job. As a first time visitor to the city she takes the help of a stranger (Vimal) in getting her to her sister's home. The guy is decent and manages to help the girl. She falls in love with him. Even he feels the same. But they go apart without knowing the whereabouts of each other !

The second pair - a workshop worker and a nurse ! What a pair :) The way they become lovers is really funny. But practical.

I personally like the first pair. Especially because of cute Ananya :) Her expressions are just awesome.

Though the story has a tragic ending I like the practicality in it. Again a movie worth the watch.

3. Rowthiram

Another heroic movie for Jeeva next to Ko. A good story line and has an awesome song "maalai mangum neram". The story still though is not practical. So I don't like it much. Worth watching once for Jeeva.

Tamil film industry is booming with young intelligent directors. Hoping it to grow healthier :)

60 days of stay in Bangalore

This post is about the Bangalore moments I miss now.

My "MA in yoga" exams were spread across two weekends with an idle weekend in between. I cannot obviously take leave from work for 2 weeks. Hence I planned to work from Bangalore branch of Deloitte for 2 weeks. Then I had to stretch it for some more time owing to personal reasons. Though this 2 months of time is short compared to my 2 years of corporate life in Hyderabad, it is awesome to think upon.

Now I do miss a lot of Bangalore moments.

1. Alpine Eco stay with friends.
2. ID dosa batter :)
3. SKY, never enjoyed the beauty of it in any other place, especially the 10th floor room view.
4. AC buses - just love the travel in them though costly.
5. Lunch with Ashwin at Bharathi and Bhagini restaurants.
6. Even though I have played just once with Karthi - Squash at Alpine.
7. Ashwin's banana dish - really yummy.
8. Office cateria paratha with veg curry.
9. Fruit juice shop nearby office.
10. Cane juice shop nearby office.

Hoping for a longer stay in Bangalore in the near future :)

Just a come back !

It is been quite a long time since I posted last. While thinking of doing something interesting got the idea of posting a blog :-)

Let me write about the corporate life since June 29th 2009.

Days are really busy with work occupying most of mind space. With an experience of 20 months in corporate world I have learnt a lot professionally and socially.

Corporate world to me is just an extension of college life with one exception that is I am earning :-) Learning is there each and every day in corporate world as like in college life. If you like challenges then surely IT field will best suit you. Sky is the limit. Be it professional life or social life you will be challenged with difficult situations at any time. You have to take the decisions on your own. Your career growth depends very importantly on the rate you take the right decisions.

Very few good things I have done so far !!! Just thought of putting them here to rekindle my own interests on those lines.

1. Went to an orphanage (six months back I think) which is located around 12 kilometers from the place I reside. Around 30 kids were there; their ages ranging from 3 to 15. A single guy is running this orphanage in his own place. So no rent problem. But for food and education of the children he was finding it difficult. His name is Nutan. Amidst those who keep piling their riches, this guy is quite different. Hats off to this guy. Made a small contribution I was able to at that time.

2. It was in another two weeks I had a chance to visit another orphanage. This one is near JNTU in Kukatpally. A guy around the age of 45 was in the place. He welcomed me with a question on his face ! I introduced myself and started inquiring about the orphanage. There were a lot of students all having books in their hands. I once again felt heavy that day for the lives of those kids. Left the place of with a different feeling.

Been a long time since i blogged. These days I started dancing :) Totally i think there are three major performances i have done so far in a span of 4 months. The first one was the "One Family Day" event. It was awesome. We managed to reach the finals. The second performance was for Diwali celebrations. We did a Bhangra. And now the third one is on ITS (my team) celebrations held in N Convention. Below is the costume we used for the ITS celebrations' event.

To print input till output is 42 !

This is a just a problem I found in CodeChef (Thanks a ton to Bittu for introducing this site to me :-)) :-)

Problem :

Your program is to use the brute-force approach in order to find the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. More precisely... rewrite small numbers from input to output. Stop processing input after reading in the number 42. All numbers at input are integers of one or two digits.

Code I have tried :

using System;

namespace LifeTheUniverse
{
    class ClsCodeChef1
    {
        static void Main()
        {
            int a = 0, i = 0;
            int[] b = new int[1];
            Console.WriteLine("Input:");
            while (a != 42)
            {
                a = Convert.ToInt32(Console.ReadLine());
                b[i] = a;
                i++;
                Array.Resize(ref b, i + 1);
            }
            Console.WriteLine("Output:");
            for (int j = 0; j < i - 1; j++)
                Console.WriteLine(b[j]);
            Console.Read();
        }
    }
}

Mynaa

Awesome movie

A very decent movie with lot of turning points.

As a whole the movie is good. But has lot of flaws with many scenes.

The lead female actor's (Amala) mom addresses the lead actor (Vidharth) as "marumagan" meaning son-in-law from the day he helped her and her daughter. But why is she not willing to get her daughter married to him ? I feel this is the first flaw.

Vidharth was hand cuffed with the sub inspector till the restaurant scene, which I don't think is not practical. The bus accident scene was not appealing. But it was needed to create the bond between Vidharth, ins and sub-ins.

The movie should have had a positive end. Just to have a negative climax, the climax is messed up.

On reaching Peria Kulam, sub-ins should have taken Amala with him and should have ended it positively.

After Amala suicided (she should not have done this ! I don't understand why she suicided), Vidharth also ended his life. After this, the ins kills his wife and her brothers, father (What the heck !!! The scene well shows  how anger can turn down any person).

The ins's wife should be rational. Atleast for being a police personnel's wife, she should have understood him atleast a little. The inspector character is very good. He showed the right emotions. The sub ins, as the experience speaks, really showed maturity for his experience in the field.

Overall the movie is worth watching.

A good job from Prabhu Soloman.

Growing Good Corn

Another nice article from an office mail :

There was a Nebraska farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbonhttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif
...
One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked.

"Why sir," said the farmer, "didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn."

He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor's corn also improves.

So it is in other dimensions. Those who choose to be at peace must help their neighbors to be at peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

If we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn.

Love and Time

Another wonderful article got in an office mail :

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, “Richness, can you take me with you?”Richness answered, “No, I can’t. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.”Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. “Vanity, please help me!”
“I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat,” Vanity answered. Sadness was close by so Love asked, “Sadness, let me go with you.”
“Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!”

Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.

Suddenly, there was a voice, “Come, Love, I will take you.” It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, “Who Helped me?”
“It was Time,” Knowledge answered.
“Time?” asked Love. “But why did Time help me?”
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, “Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is.”

Bad Temper

This is a nice article I came across in a mail at office :

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. “

When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.”

Lecturers at college

It is been quite a while to write a blog.

Well, it is 12.30 am 20th Dec, Monday. Just reading "five point someone". While reading just thought of writing a blog listing all the lecturers I could recollect now.

1. My HOD. Aww, what is the name ? I forgot. Friends : if you can give the name I would post it here :-)
2. My Tutor. Christie mam. I indeed respect her a lot. She always cared a lot for me personally about my health. I still remember those meetings where she stressed on health.
3. Manoharan sir :-) One of the lecturers I respect for his attitude rather than anything else. The first subject he handled for us is Electro Magnetic Fields. A lovely subject it should be. I never mastered it. But I love the concept of electro magnetics.
4. Radhika madam. She handled Mathematics in first semester. She is one of those I would want to meet when I go college anytime if possible.
5. Lalithambigai mam. She handled C Programming in first semester. She indeed had a lot of info on C language. She taught well. But I got only 7-C. My worst rating ever, meaning I scored only 60 to 69. Hmmm. I am yet to master C :-)
6. Communications skill mam : Again I forgot the name. Friends : Your help needed again :-)
7. Kesavamurthy sir : He did not handle any subject I think. But still he is one of those I cannot forget.
8. Ramanathan sir : A very hard working sir. I love the way he handles and controls his class.
9. Sivaraj sir. Another hard working lecturer.
10. Rajalakshmi mam. She handled VLSI in third sem i think.
11. Engineering graphics sir. I forgot his name. He really was a geek in that subject. I scored 10 S (90 to 100) in this subject. I love this sub.
12. Krishnaveni mam. She handled "Signals and Systems" and "DSP".
13. Faculties from Mathematics department. I could not recollect even one of the names.

I am not getting anymore name. I do remember the subjects rather.

If anyone is going through this blog, help me in recollecting all our lecture names :-)

DREAM INDIA

India - a symbol of corruption ? a symbol of bribery ? a symbol of illiteracy? a symbol of in-justice to the poor ? a symbol of "Rich get richer, poor get poorer" ? a country filled with beggars ? a nation rich of hospitals ?

What is the root cause of all these ? Improper governance. Poor administrators. Corrupt administrators. Irresponsible citizens. Fraudulent, dishonest, selfish, incapable, untruthful politicians. Unfair policies.

WHY WHY WHY ???

Can't this country be ideal. Most of saints have originated in this land. None can boast of their culture as ours. Though, why are we a developing nation still from independence ? If you stay honest, then you are called a clown in this country. I promise if I stay honest with the present situation, I cannot survive. Who has driven this country to such a pathetic situation ?

I want my country to be free of corrupt, free of in-justice. Why do people hoard money for their upcoming 10 generations. Why does a person need 5 cars lined up in his home when there are thousands of people who sleep on platform. Why does a person need to have his food in five star hotels when there are tens of thousands who cannot afford a hygienic food twice a day.

I want to change everything. I want justice for everyone. Only if communist countries can be like this, why can't we follow communist ? I am ready to sacrifice my pleasures for the needy. But are others like that? What can a single person do in this country. I will end in vain increasing the beggar list of the country by one.

I want a political party who is working selflessly and only for the improvement of the country. I don't want this to go this off as a dream. A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step. I am ready to take that single. I need people to come along with me.

I am not writing this particular blog for time pass. This is from my heart. I just want justice to everyone and that is possible only through sacrifice, selflessness, We have seen lot of movies depicting what will happen if you fall into politics. Either you will corrupted or you will die for nothing. I don’t want to become a victim of either of these types. Can anyone tell me one honest politician ? If so is he still in India !!!

Closing this blog with dissatisfaction of Indian administration !!!

Nice mail forward - worth reading

Once there was an old man who lived in a tiny village. Although poor, he was envied by all, for he owned a beautiful white horse. Even the king coveted his treasure. A horse like this had never been seen before-such was its splendor, its majesty, its strength.

People offered fabulous prices for the steed, but the old man always refused. "This horse is not a horse to me," he would tell them. "It is a person. How could you sell a person? He is a friend, not a possession. How could you sell a friend?" The man was poor and the temptation was great. But he never sold the horse.

One morning he found that the horse was not in the stable. All the village came to see him. "You old fool," they scoffed, "we told you that someone would steal your horse. We warned you that you would be robbed. You are so poor. How could you ever hope to protect such a valuable animal? It would have been better to have sold him. You could have gotten whatever price you wanted. No amount would have been too high. Now the horse is gone, and you've been cursed with misfortune." The old man responded, "Don't speak too quickly. Say only that the horse is not in the stable. That is all we know; the rest is judgment. If I've been cursed or not, how can you know? How can you judge?" The people contested, "Don't make us out to be fools! We may not be philosophers, but great philosophy is not needed. The simple fact that your horse is gone is a curse."

The old man spoke again. "All I know is that the stable is empty, and the horse is gone. The rest I don't know. Whether it be a curse or a blessing, I can't say. All we can see is a fragment. Who can say what will come next?"

The people of the village laughed. They thought that the man was crazy. They had always thought he was a fool; if he wasn't, he would have sold the horse and lived off the money. But instead, he was a poor woodcutter, an old man still cutting firewood and dragging it out of the forest and selling it. He lived hand to mouth in the misery of poverty. Now he had proven that he was, indeed, a fool.

After fifteen days, the horse returned. He hadn't been stolen; he had run away into the forest. Not only had he returned, he had brought a dozen wild horses with him. Once again the village people gathered around the woodcutter and spoke. "Old man, you were right and we were wrong. What we thought was a curse was a blessing. Please forgive us."The man responded, "Once again, you go too far. Say only that the horse is back. State only that a dozen horses returned with him, but don't judge. How do you know if this is a blessing or not? You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge?

You read only one page of a book. Can you judge the whole book? You read only one word of a phrase. Can you understand the entire phrase? "Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. All you have is a fragment! Don't say that this is a blessing. No one knows. I am content with what I know. I am not perturbed by what I don't."

"Maybe the old man is right," they said to one another. So they said little. But down deep, they knew he was wrong. They knew it was a blessing. Twelve wild horses had returned with one horse. With a little bit of work, the animals could be broken and trained and sold for much money.

The old man had a son, an only son. The young man began to break the wild horses. After a few days, he fell from one of the horses and broke both legs. Once again the villagers gathered around the old man and cast their judgments.

"You were right," they said. "You proved you were right. The dozen horses were not a blessing. They were a curse. Your only son has broken his legs, and now in your old age you have no one to help you. Now you are poorer than ever."

The old man spoke again. "You people are obsessed with judging. Don't go so far. Say only that my son broke his legs. Who knows if it is a blessing or a curse? No one knows. We only have a fragment. Life comes in fragments."

It so happened that a few weeks later the country engaged in war against a neighboring country. All the young men of the village were required to join the army. Only the son of the old man was excluded, because he was injured. Once again the people gathered around the old man, crying and screaming because their sons had been taken. There was little chance that they would return. The enemy was strong, and the war would be a losing struggle. They would never see their sons again.

"You were right, old man," they wept. "God knows you were right. This proves it. Your son's accident was a blessing. His legs may be broken, but at least he is with you. Our sons are gone forever."

The old man spoke again. "It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. No one knows. Say only this: Your sons had to go to war, and mine did not. No one knows if it is a blessing or a curse. No one is wise enough to know. Only God knows."

The old man was right. We only have a fragment. Life's mishaps and horrors are only a page out of a grand book. We must be slow about drawing conclusions. We must reserve judgment on life's storms until we know the whole story.

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself."
